Michigan women's basketball to honor Oxford victims with patch vs. Minnesota

A little over a week after the Michigan football team paid tribute to the Oxford High School shooting victims during the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis, the women's basketball team will do the same during Big Ten play Sunday at Crisler Center.

The Wolverines host Minnesota at 2 p.m. to wrap up early season Big Ten play. They'll do so while wearing a patch honoring Madisyn Baldwin, Tate Myre, Hana St. Juliana and Justin Shilling, who were killed in the school shooting at Oxford High on Dec. 7. The octagonal maize-and-blue patch on the left chest of their maize jerseys will feature the letters, “HSJ,” and the number, “52,” worn by St. Juliana, an Oxford basketball player. It also features four hearts, for the four slain students.

The patch is similar to the one worn by the football team on Dec. 4 — which had Myre's initials ("TM") and his number (42) — when the Wolverines beat Iowa, 42-3.

The Michigan women's basketball program will also host the Oxford women's basketball squads at Sunday afternoon's game, the school announced via Twitter on Saturday. Sunday's game isn't televised, but will be streamed online via Big Ten Network Plus.

The Michigan women are ranked No. 11 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll and No. 13 in the Associated Press poll. The Wolverines are 9-1 (1-0 in Big Ten play) with their only loss this season coming on the road Dec. 2 against Louisville. After Sunday's game, they face No. 5 Baylor in a nationally televised game (ESPN) at 1 p.m. Dec. 19 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
