BRIGHTON Owners of a new "craft superfood" eatery coming soon to Brighton are gearing up to serve healthy acai fruit bowls and smoothies.

Michigan's first Everbowl franchise is expected to open this fall at 323 W. Main St. in a portion of the ground floor of the former CW Interiors, which is owned by the Foguth Financial Group.

Co-owners Michael Foguth and young entrepreneur Chris Triplett said they plan to open several Everbowl franchise locations, starting in downtown Brighton.

Foguth said acai bowl restaurants are already popular on the west coast and in warmer climates, like Florida.

“I love the product itself," he said. "I believe in it. So, I was like, alright. This is something we need to bring to Michigan."

Since Foguth Financial, which occupies the remainder of the building, is open by appointment only, Foguth said he was looking for something that would generate foot traffic downtown.

"When we originally purchased this building, we envisioned this being either a café or something that was community-oriented," Foguth said. "It's very healthy. They're cutting fresh fruit every single day, multiple times a day. It's a healthy, quick service option."

The menu includes several signature recipes for fruit bowls. Customers can also create their own bowl by choosing different bases and toppings.

The Everbowl, for example, contains acai — a berry that grows in South America — granola, banana, strawberries, and blueberries.

The business is working with local supplier Gelardi Produce and hopes to "source as much locally as we possibly can," Foguth said.

Owners expect many customers will take their bowls and smoothies to-go and pre-order for pickup, but a couple of dine-in tables will be available. The business will also use DoorDash.

"People definitely use it as a meal, and then you'll get athletes that come in before or after sports," Triplett said. "It's just a little bit of a lighter option, I would say, compared to running to another quick service food restaurant where you feel heavy."

Triplett said he was a personal trainer looking for a "switch" and liked the opportunity to grow with more franchise locations.

"That was exciting for me to do that," he said.

While Foguth didn't say which communities they're eyeing for additional locations, he said they're a good fit for walkable downtowns.

"We have expectations of expanding, probably another four to five stores," Foguth said.

They expect to open the Brighton location in October.
