Michon to be feted at Gold Key Dinner

Jul. 22—WILLIMANTIC — Eastern Connecticut State University All- America softball pitcher Alexis Michon has been recognized by the Connecticut Sports Media Alliance (CSMA) as its Hank O'Donnell Female Athleteof- the-Year for 2021-22. In leading the No. 3 nationally- ranked Warriors to conference, regional and Super Regional championships and a berth in the NCAA Division III national tournament as a first-year sophomore transfer this past spring, Michon was named first- team Division III All-America and national Pitcher- of- the- Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

The righthander won her final 21 decisions for the 44-7 Warriors en route to a 24- 1 record and 1.07 earned run average. Her winning percentage of .960 established a program season record.

Michon will be among those honored at the CSMA 80th Gold Key Dinner Sunday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.

Also among the honorees will be former Eastern baseball player and Windsor Locks native Bob Cressotti ( 1979), who will be one of six recipients of a John Wentworth Good Sport Award. The Enfield resident is a long-time volunteer with Special Olympics, Challenger baseball and youth soccer.

A left- handed pitcher under Hall of Fame coach Bill Holowaty, Cressotti was 5-3 with a save in 12 games in helping the Warriors to the 1979 regional championship game.

In addition to All-America and first- team All- New England Region honors in 2022, Michon was also named Little East Conference Pitcher- of- the-Year, Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Union ( N. J.) Regionals and Most Outstanding Pitcher of the NCAA Super Regionals.

In the team's two shutout wins over Randolph-Macon College in the Super Regionals, Michon fanned 14 batters in 14 innings, allowing only seven hits (6 singles). In a 1-0, 8-inning win in the first game, Michon fanned 11 batters and spaced four singles.

Michon appeared on the mound in all but one of the team's 13 Little East and NCAA post- season games. She was 7-0 with a save and a 0.91 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 54 innings with three complete- game shutouts.

Opponents hit just .122 against her with 17 of their 22 hits being singles.
