Micki Egli, West Branch superintendent, nominated for LifeChanger award

BELOIT ‒ The leader of West Branch Local Schools has been nominated for a national award.

Superintendent Micki Egli is one of eight educators in Ohio nominated for the 2023-24 LifeChanger of the Year award by the National Life Group.

The others include Jessica Archer, an assistant principal from Nordonia Hills City Schools, and Theresa Novak, a special education teacher from Woodridge Local Schools, both in Summit County.

According to a district release, Egli was nominated anonymously for her ability to expand opportunities for all students and build bridges within the community. Those partnerships include local companies that offer practical resources for students.

Adding opportunities: West Branch nets funding for garden, new tech program

"Students this school year will be able to learn about in-demand jobs right in their hometown, including welding and automation/robotics," the nomination form stated.

It also said: "Mrs. Egli can best be described as a no-nonsense, innovative and determined leader. Becoming the district's newest superintendent was a challenge, but becoming a superintendent during a global pandemic takes that to a whole different level.

"Despite the challenges occurring in public education over the past few years, Mrs. Egli remains steadfast to the mission and vision of the community and school district."

Egli, in an email, said she was surprised by the nomination.

She said: "Overall, I'm extremely flattered by the nomination and that someone sees me to be worthy of this level of recognition. I certainly don't view what I do everyday as anything extra special. Despite the nomination, I work very hard to improve everything from busing to high school AP class offerings (and all the little things in between)  for everyone involved at West Branch. My motto everyday is 'to make tomorrow better than today.' Obviously my hard work over the past few years has not gone unnoticed and it's extremely pleasing to have someone recognize this."

LifeChanger of the Year is an annual program that recognizes educators and school employees across the country, celebrating those who make a significant difference in the lives of students.

Since 2011, National Life has recognized more than 7,300 school employees from more than 2,000 school districts. It has awarded more than $720,000 to schools and school employees, the release stated.
