Made in Chelsea's Sam Thompson has apologised for using homophobic slurs in a number of old tweets that have recently resurfaced.

The tweets date back to 2013, when Thompson first joined E4's popular reality show, and see the reality star repeatedly use the word "gay" in an offensive manner in conversations and replies to his fellow castmates.

Thompson has now issued an apology for the tweets, telling The Sun that he's "grown up a lot" since writing those messages six years ago.

"I was wrong to use language like that. I've grown up a lot since 2013 and would now never be so careless with my choice of words," he said in a statement.

"As a society, we've also come a long way, and I think we're now more aware of the power of the words we use."

Thompson recently made the decision to take a step back from his time on Made in Chelsea, admitting that he was struggling to be around on-screen ex-girlfriend Sophie Habboo.

Meanwhile, Love Island 2019 contestant Amber Gill recently responded after a racially insensitive post was found on her social media account before this year's series of the ITV2 reality show got underway.

The reality star's representative later told The Metro that the material had been taken "out of context", following some considerable backlash.

"We deleted the post as it was being taken out of context in regards to what actually happened," they wrote.
