Mid-Columbia region has 10 teams qualifying for WA state football playoffs
The WIAA released the state pairings on Sunday for all football and girls soccer classifications, as well as volleyball for 2A, 1A, 2B and 1B.
Some already have dates, times and locations. Others will be updated when information is released. Here are the matchups for all of our teams:
Football
Class 4A: The Mid-Columbia Conference had three teams qualify for state after they won regional crossovers this past weekend.
Kamiakin rolled past visiting Wenatchee 42-0 on Friday; Pasco knocked off Moses Lake 49-32 on the road Friday night; and Richland upset Eastmont 51-44 on Saturday.
Kamiakin earned a No. 6 seed from the state seeding committee and will play host to No. 11 Emerald Ridge at 6 p.m., Friday, at Lampson Stadium.
Chiawana, as a No. 9 seed, will travel to play at Gonzaga Prep, an 8 seed. As of Sunday, no time or day has been set.
Richland gets in as the 16th and final seed. The Bombers will travel to play No. 1 seed Graham-Kapowsin.
Class 3A: Kennewick rolled over visiting Mercer Island by a 38-0 score Saturday, and the Lions found out Sunday they’ll be a No. 5 seed heading to the state playoffs.
Kennewick will host No. 12 Mountain View of Vancouver at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Lampson Stadium.
Class 2A: Othello qualified for the state playoffs two weekends ago when the Huskies clinched the No. 2 berth out of the Central Washington Athletic Conference.
Othello had a bye this past weekend, and as a No. 14 seed, the Huskies will play on the road against No. 3 Enumclaw. Date, time and location has yet to be set.
Class 1A: Two teams from the South Central Athletic Conference’s East division have earned state berths: Royal and Connell.
Royal is the No. 1 team in the state, and the Knights will play host to No. 16 Eatonville. Date, time and location has not been set as of Sunday night.
Connell knocked off La Salle 24-21 last Friday to earn a state berth. The Eagles were given the 14 seed, and they’ll play No. 3 Lynden Christian this coming weekend.
Class 2B: River View and Tri-Cities Prep won their EWAC crossover games to qualify for state.
River View is an 8 seed, and the Panthers will play No. 9 Asotin at 7 p.m., Friday, at Fran Rish Stadium in Richland.
Meanwhile, Tri-Cities Prep earned the No. 11 seed and will hit the road to take on No. 6 Toledo.
Date, time and location has not been set.
Class 1B: Liberty Christian is 9-0, and the Richland school earned a No. 4 seed from the state committee. Because the 1B playoffs involve 12 teams, LC will get a first-round bye and doesn’t have to play this coming weekend.
The winner of this coming weekend’s No. 12 Winlock and No. 5 Neah Bay contest will take on Liberty Christian in the state quarterfinals on Nov. 17-18.
Girls soccer
Four area teams are still alive for a chance at a state championship.
In 4A, Richland beat Chiawana 1-0 (4-3 on penalty kicks) on Saturday in a winner-to-state, loser-out game in the District 8 tournament.
So the Bombers were given a No. 6 seed on Sunday, and they’ll play host to No. 11 Puyallup on either Tuesday or Wednesday this week in a first-round game.
Southridge qualified for the 3A state tournament when the Suns beat Ferris 2-1 in overtime on Saturday in the district tournament.
The state committee gave Southridge a 17 seed, and it plays at No. 16 Bonney Lake at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11 in a state play-in game. The winner will play at No. 1 Bellevue on Friday.
In the 1A state tournament, No. 14 Kiona-Benton will play at No. 3 University Prep either Tuesday or Wednesday.
And Mabton is a 12 seed in the 2B state tournament. The Vikings will take on No. 5 Northwest Christian of Colbert in a first-round match on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Volleyball
The area has no teams in either the 2A or 1A state tournaments, but it has three set for the 2B event and another two in the 1B tournament.
Both of those tournaments run Wednesday and Thursday in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
At 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, No. 14 Walla Walla Valley Academy will open tourney play against No. 3 Colfax.
At 11:45 a.m., No. 8 River View takes on No. 9 Rainier; and No. 16 Warden opens against top-ranked Adna.
The 2B championship is set for 5:30 p.m., Thursday.
In the 1B tourney, No. 16 DeSales will play No. 17 Willapa Valley at 8 a.m. Wednesday in a play-in match. The winner will take on No. 1 Oakesdale at 3:30 p.m. that same day.
Liberty Christian has been assigned a No. 5 seed by the state committee. The Patriots open tournament play against No. 12 Mary Walker at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday.
The 1B championship match will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Girl swimming and diving
The WIAA girls state swimming and diving championships run Thursday through Saturday at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.
The heat sheets for the three meets — Class 4A, 3A, and 1A/2A — should be posted in the next few days.
