Is Middle Tennessee in the path of the snowstorm sweeping the US?

As an unseasonably cold blast continues in Middle Tennessee, a snowstorm is set to envelope nearly half of the United States in the days to come. But will we see any snow?

Thick cloud cover will keep things cold on Wednesday, and bring a few flurries. It will also kick off a prolonged cold spell, the National Weather Service Nashville said. Highs in the 40s are expected regionwide Wednesday, and through the weekend. Overnight lows will drop into the teens and 20s.

While clouds will linger into midday Wednesday, sunny skies and dry conditions are expected for the next seven days, the forecast showed.

Yes, it's colder than usual in Middle Tennessee

NWS Nashville said temperatures are up to 20 degrees below normal for mid-November. In fact, they may hover near record daily lows, especially in Crossville.

"The prolonged period of such cold in November is also quite unusual," NWS said.

Average highs are typically in the uppers 50s and lower 60s this time of year in Middle Tennessee. Average lows are usually in the uppers 30s to low 40s.

Forecast: Snow expected from New Mexico to New England

The first snowflakes of the season are forecast to fall across a large swath of the country this week, all the way from New Mexico to New England. Around 20 states could see snow, AccuWeather said, thanks to an unusually cold air mass moving across the nation.

"Unseasonably cold conditions will continue for the center of the country through the eastern U.S. this week, setting the stage for potential wintry weather," said AccuWeather meteorologist Nicole LoBiondo.

While a blockbuster snowstorm is not expected, the first snowfall of the season can pose problems for drivers not accustomed to the weather.
