Middleboro boys basketball tops Norwell, Cohasset to go to 8-2

Powered by back-to-back 20-plus point efforts from Gianni Perea, the Middleboro High School boys basketball team was the winner of two straight over South Shore League heavyweights Norwell and Cohasset on the home court this week.

The Sachems started the week with a 73-59 win over Norwell on Monday night, Perea scoring 22 points and collecting 5 rebounds. Can Downey had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Jalen Moore had 14 points and 4 rebounds, while shooting 10 of 12 at the free-throw line.

On Tuesday night, Perea dropped a game-high 29 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals to lead the way to a 64-58win over Cohasset.

Jacob Briggs had a big double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Marzelli had 8 points, Moore had 7 points, 6 steals and 8 rebounds and Downey was good for 7 points and 11 rebounds.

With the pair of wins, the Sachems improved to 8-2 on the season.

Middleboro has the rest of the week off. They host Apponequet Monday, Jan. 24 at 6:30 pm.
