Middletown Area School District suffers ‘cyber incident,’ investigation ongoing

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM)– A school district in Dauphin County is looking into a “cyber incident” that happened last week.

Middletown Area School District noticed that two of its information systems were not working right last week and “took immediate action,” according to a statement posted on the district’s website.

“The school district took immediate action last week when two of our information systems were not operating correctly,” the statement reads. “Working in tandem with external information technology specialists, the district’s technology department launched a thorough and comprehensive investigation to ensure the security of our data systems. This involved running an exhaustive diagnostic and forensic evaluation of the District’s network and systems.”

Although there were disruptions, the district says that there is no indication that any student or employee personal information was compromised from the cyber incident.

The district says in the statement that its “top priority is always to provide accurate and factual information to all stakeholders when it is appropriate to do so. Additionally, the privacy and security of personal information in the District’s possession remains of the utmost importance to us.”
