Middletown names Bill Edwards Jr. as next head boys basketball coach

One of Middletown's all-time great basketball players is back at the helm of his alma mater.

Bill Edwards Jr., a 2009 Middletown graduate, was named the next head boys basketball coach of the Middies Friday afternoon.

"I am honored, humbled and blessed to be the next head basketball coach of the storied Middletown Middies program," Edwards Jr. said in a statement. "Middletown is home and this community has always been special to me. I am excited to continue to raise the standard here. My staff and I will constantly be in pursuit of excellence on and off the court. We plan to help shape, mentor and guide young men in our community to a brighter future."

Edwards Jr. is in the top 10 of all-time scoring in Middletown history, totaling over 1,100 career points to go with 582 rebounds and 261 assists over his prep career (2006-2009). He was the two-time Greater Miami Conference Player of the Year (2008, 2009) and helped lead the Middies to a 54-35 overall record during his prep career. Edwards Jr., who was a McDonalds All-American nominee as a senior, went on to play at Penn State University and Miami Ohio.

Edwards Jr. was a Middletown assistant for the past two seasons and replaces Kelven Moss, who was recently named the next head boys basketball coach at Lakota West.

Middletown went 12-11 last season and finished sixth in the GMC last season.
