Midgets showcase offensive superiority against Watford City

Sep. 12—WATFORD CITY, N.D. — The Dickinson Midgets (1-0, 2-1) started regional play for the 2022 season by dominating the Watford City Wolves (0-1, 0-4) in a 42-7 trouncing on Friday on the road. A North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association poll now ranks the Midgets fifth best in the state for 11A.

The Wolves held Dickinson to a tie at 7 a-piece going into the half, but would be unable to fend off the Midget's versatile offense that sprang into action in the second half. Much of the Midget successes came via a potent ground and air attack, crossing the end zone five times in the second half.

Dickinson's scoring started early in the first quarter from a 9-yard run by running back Sam Stillings. The junior showed great conditioning late in the game and once again made a huge impact in Dickinson's game plan on the ground. Stillings had 117 rushing yards on the night and three touchdowns, including his longest run of the game — a 52 yard break away aided by a great offensive line push that parted the Watford City seas.

Stilling re-established Dickinson's lead in the third quarter, spearheading a drive that concluded with a one-yard run to take the lead at 14-7.

Their lead would continue to expand, but this time would be on a 61-yard pass from quarterback Shayden Jackson-Zietz to Kaeden Krieg. The touchdown pass would be the gunslinger's longest pass of the night. Jackson-Zietz also had 62 all purpose yards.

Stilling's one-yard TD ended the scoring for the third quarter, but Dickinson's running offense would continue to put in work in the fourth quarter on the backs of Braden Meschke and Christian Bowden. Both would score from the red zone on critical possessions.

Success is rarely attributed to the special teams, but Kicker Colin Tschetter would aid the Midgets in the victory by going 6-for-6 on each of his PATs on the night.

The Midgets will face Valley City at home on Friday in a non-region game at the The Henry Biesiot Activities Center in Dickinson.
