Midland Empire Conference releases MEC All-Conference honors

Mar. 20—The Midland Empire Conference (MEC) on Monday announced their All-Conference teams after the season wrapped up March 17 in Springfield, Missouri.

Lots of local talent was accounted for, with two area coaches receiving Co Coach of the Year honors in girls basketball. Benton head coach Chris Michaels led the Cardinals to a 27-4 record and a second place finish in Class 4.

Bishop LeBlond head coach Jackie Steltenpohl led the Golden Eagles to a 38-4 overall record, including being the No.1 ranked team for most of the season, and finishing in second place in Class 2.

For Benton, Andrea Simmons was a unanimous vote. Teammates Kelsey Johnson and Peyton Anderson joined Simmons. The Golden Eagles had two athletes in Tatum Studer and Shae Lewis.

On the boys side, MEC Coach of the Year was Lafayette's Kevin Bristol, who led his team to a 23-8 overall record and a third place finish in Class 4. He had two of his athletes make All-Conference in a unanimous vote: Camden Bennett and point guard Mikey Thomas.

Jake Korell was the lone Golden Eagle. Lincoln Goodwin and Denver Domann from Benton were recognized for their outstanding performances.
