(WHTM) – A Mechanicsburg native was announced as the next host of Saturday Night Live (SNL) on Feb. 24, 2024.

SNL announced on X, that Shane Gillis, a comedian, will host the show on Feb. 24 with 21 Savage.

Gillis grew up in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, and graduated from Trinity High School where he played football as an offensive lineman. After graduating high school Gillis went on to graduate from West Chester University.

In 2019, Gillis was announced to be joining SNL as a cast member but would be fired one week later after videos of him making racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, and misogynistic jokes reappeared.

Impractical Jokers to appear at Hollywood Casino

Gillis was named Philly’s Funniest at Helium Comedy Club in 2016, according to Gillis’ website. He would also be named an “Up-Next” Comic at Comedy Central’s 2019 Clusterfest.

The comic would also host a podcast known as “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” and would also appear on:

  • Sirius XM’s The Bonfire

  • Spotify’s The Joe Rogan Experience

  • Barstool Sports KFC Radio

Gillis’ first comedy special would be released on YouTube in 2021, Shane Gillis: Live in Austin which would get over six million views.

The Midstate native would also help create, write, and star in a sketch series called “Gilly & Keeves.” The sketch series would get a special in 2022 when Gillis teamed up with John McKeever.

Shane currently is doing stand-up comedy shows around America and is set to appear on Peacock’s “Bupkis.”

The SNL show with Gillis will air on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11:30 p.m. on NBC and Peacock.
