The Midtown Redevelopment Corp., or Midtown OKC, is looking to draw some attention to the neighborhood during lunch hours from Feb. 20 through 24 with a "10 Buck Lunch Week."

"It's our brand-new event for Midtown. We're just excited; it's something that we're excited to offer for restaurants, but also to offer for customers and downtowners," said Midtown District Manager Jakey Dobbs. "The $10 really feels like a good deal right now."

All lunches include a soft drink or tea, depending on restaurant specifications. Lunch specials are available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, Feb. 20 through 24.

Dobbs said the idea for offering a week focused on lunch for just $10 came from conversations with area business and restaurant owners about the desire to increase lunch time traffic.

"Post-COVID and post-pandemic the lunch crowd had really lessened, and they weren't having much of a rush and they were struggling with the rising cost of goods and things like that, so they were just worried about their lunch crowd," she said.

Dobbs said she and her team got to work coming up with an idea that would help drive customers to area restaurants during lunch hours. She said they wanted to make sure the week provided an opportunity both for restaurants and patrons.

"It was kind of two-fold, to help the restaurants get back their lunch crowd and have more exposure to new customers, and then also to help the customers because budgets are tight now," Dobbs said. "It allows customers to potentially experience Midtown restaurants that many they felt like were a boundary due to the traditional cost of lunch or dinner at those restaurants."

Dobbs said the week also gives restaurants a chance to try new items to see if they want to permanently add them to their menus and with 19 restaurants taking part in the week, there are plenty of options to choose from. She said there are options that fit a number of dietary needs and encouraged diners to plan ahead and look at the options online.

Getting people through the door during $10 Lunch Week allows them to discover new restaurants they may not have visited before, Dobbs said, hopefully leading them to return in the future for another lunch, happy hour, dinner or something else.

She said both those working from home and those who had returned to an office environment should try to "at least get out one day during the week and try a new restaurant."
