Mighty Tigers win Clipper Classic title

Dec. 19—PUTNAM — Dylan Desautels earned Most Valuable Player honors scoring 18 points — and the Windham Tech boys basketball team won the 21st Annual Putnam Clipper Classic championship with a 52-44 victory Saturday over Putnam.

Trey Lindey had 12 points and grabbed 23 rebounds in being selected to the all- tournament team along with Desmen Gaston (12 points, 5 steals) as the Mighty Tigers (2-0) scored 27 points in the fourth quarter — more points than they did in the first three quarters (25) combined.

In other games ... Malcolm Hunter finished with 25 points — making five 3-pointers — and had five assists to lead Windham to a 59- 55 Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II victory over Woodstock Academy at Callaghan Gymnasium.

Travis Mangual added 15 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals and Tahj Jones had eight assists for the Whips (2-0, 1-0 league), who used a 21- 8 second quarter to take a 30- 19 halftime lead.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Grace Quinn led all scorers with 11 points as Parish Hill picked up its first win of the season in the consolation game of the Putnam Clipper Classic with a 30-23 victory over Ellis Tech.

Kaelyn Pearl added six points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates (1-2). Freshman Riley Monahan ( 2 points) scored her first career varsity points.

HOCKEY

Ryan Fantry, Braiden George, Louis Bourquin and Carter Pelletier scored goals for E. O. Smith/ Tolland in a 7-4 CCC South Division loss to Hall at the University of Connecticut's Freitas Ice Forum.

The Bucks ( 0- 2, 0- 1 league) rallied back from deficits of 3- 0 and 4- 2 and tied the game when Pelletier and Bourquin scored goals just over three minutes apart. Luke Ruchalski, Declan Bayne, Damian Till, Rabeeh Mahmoud and Connor McCaughey all had assits.

Owen Miller put the Titans ( 1- 0, 1- 0) ahead to stay 6: 03 into the third period and back- to- back goals from Ben Gerken and Tommy Finley in the final minute sealed the win.

FRIDAY'S RESULTS

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hailey Flores scored 15 points with five steals and Windham pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 39-30 ECC Division III victory at Plainfield.

Alyssa Lebiszczak, Aniyah Jenkins and Jaelize Rivera all scored six points for the Whips ( 2- 0, 2- 0 league), who led 25- 24 going into the fourth quarter.

Taylor Pankowski ( 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) and Phoebe Carpenter ( 12 points, 9 rebounds) paced Lyman Mmemorial in a 57- 25 ECC Division IV victory over Wheeler in Lebanon.

Jenny Lopez led the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0 league) with 14 points, five assists, seven steals and three rebounds. Lyman Memorial finished the game with 14 assists and 19 steals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jaiden Lopez scored 28 points in leading Lyman Memorial to a 61- 56 ECC Division IV victory at Tourtellotte Memorial in North Grosvenordale.

Kevin Boticello added 19 points and Ryan Miller scored five for the Bulldogs (2-0, 2-0 league). Lopez also led three players in double figures with 23 points on Thursday in a Division IV season- opening 67- 53 victory in Lebanon over Montville.

Troy Miller scored 13 of his 16 points in the first half as RHAM defeated Coventry, 61-53, in a non- conference game at Matthew J. Hurlock Gymnasium.
