A pair of Guatemalan teenagers sustained severe injuries after falling from an 18-foot-high border fence separating Yuma, Arizona, from Mexico.

The girls arrived at the fence with four others on the afternoon of December 7. After falling from the fence, a 14-year-old girl broke several vertebrae and was sent to a Phoenix hospital for treatment. Another 17-year-old girl also fell, sustaining an ankle injury that was treated at a local hospital. The four others in the group attempting to cross into the United States were taken into custody.
