Migrants trying to cross Channel brought to Dover port
STORY: The first boats with adults and young children were brought to ashore on Border Force boats early on Monday (May 2).
The renewed migrant crossings followed a temporary halt of 11 days without any crossings at the end of last month.
Aiming to break people-smuggling networks and stem the flow of migrants across the Channel, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in April that Britain could send tens of thousands of asylum seekers to the East African country of Rwanda.
Under the plan, anyone who has arrived in Britain illegally since Jan. 1 could now be relocated to Rwanda, which would disrupt the business model of people-smuggling gangs, Johnson said.
But his plan drew swift criticism from opponents of his Conservative Party and from charities.
