Mike Minor scratched from start, Reds name Luis Cessa as starter vs. Brewers

The Cincinnati Reds scratched Mike Minor from his scheduled start Friday and announced Luis Cessa will replace him on the mound for their game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ball Park.

Minor was placed on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder soreness. Minor, who pitched the first game of a doubleheader last Saturday, is 4-12 with a career-high 6.06 ERA in 19 starts this season. He allowed five runs on five hits and five walks across three innings in his last outing, matching a career-high in walks, and his fastball velocity was down by 1.2 mph.

Connor Overton, out since May, was activated from the 60-day IL, replacing Minor on the active roster. Nick Senzel was transferred to the 60-day IL.

"Didn’t feel good," Minor said after a 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. "I think you guys could tell. Just couldn’t throw it where I wanted. ... Everything felt bad."

Cessa will make his seventh start since shifting from the bullpen to the rotation. He's pitched at least five innings in each of his four outings this month, posting a 3.80 ERA with a 18 strikeouts and five walks in 21 1/3 innings.

Hunter Greene rejoined the Reds' rotation last weekend from the 15-day injured list and Graham Ashcraft is expected to be activated Saturday to make his first start this month.
