Saying it was time for a change, Mike Moler has stepped down as Dublin Scioto boys basketball coach after 10 seasons.

Before taking over the program, Moler was an assistant at Scioto for seven years.

The Irish finished 7-16 this winter.

“I had some great times there,” said Moler, who informed his players Thursday. “Seventeen years, we had a lot of good seasons, but things change. I needed a break. My responsibilities at home and as a father are starting to change. I’ve been frustrated the last couple of years and not just with wins and losses, just frustrated.”

He was named Division I district Coach of the Year in 2016-17 after the Irish went 15-9.

“Coach Moler is well respected amongst his basketball coaching peers in central Ohio,” Scioto athletic director Nick Magistrale said. “Mike always has his teams well prepared with thorough scouting reports and game planning. The Dublin Scioto athletic department and community wish Mike nothing but the best as he looks forward to spending more time with wife Emily, son Drew and daughter Reese.”

Moler, 43, said he will take a break from the sport but is likely to return to coaching.

“I have nothing but positive vibes for Dublin Scioto and hope for the best,” he said. “My advice to the new coach would probably be just try to keep building the culture.”

This is the second Dublin boys basketball coaching change since the season ended. It was announced in early March that Jamey Collins would not return as coach at Coffman after 21 seasons.
