Weekly/Long-term Regular Programming

Winter Reading Program [ Children's Services ][ Teen Services ][ Adult Services ]

It's time to participate in Milan-Berlin Library District's Winter Reading Program from January 3-31. Each book, magazine, audiobook, and eBook you check out from the library will give you the opportunity to win a prize.

Get Organized Month [ Teen Services ][ Adult Services ]

Celebrate Get Organized Month at the library with a series of fun and informative adult and teen programs designed to help patrons get excited about planning and organization. Attendees at these events will also receive a chance to win a prize at the end of the month. Applicable events are noted in program descriptions.

January — Tuesdays — 10 to 11:15AM — Milan

Stay & Play —Registration Required [ Children's Services ]

In this program, we use music along with large- and small-motor movement to engage in a fun atmosphere that encourages care givers and children to foster early learning through play. This program will start with 10 to 15 minutes of songs, rhymes, and structured activities and then parents and care givers are invited to stay and play. Ages 1-4. Registration required. As spots are limited, if you are unable to attend, please contact the library to cancel your reservation.

Perler Palooza [ Teen Services ]

Join us for an afternoon of Perler bead crafting. Use colorful beads to create magnets or keychains in your favorite 8-bit-style shapes. Materials will be provided. Teens ages 11-18 are welcome.

Jan. 9, 23, 30 — Monday — 10 to 11AM

Twist & Shout [ Children's Services ]

Dance, sing, and play instruments with your friends at the library! This program is intended for children under 5 and their caregivers.

Teen Desk Organizers [ Teen Services ]

Create and decorate a cardboard desk organizer perfectly fit for your school supplies. Teens ages 11-18.

Adult Book Club — The Tattooist of Auschwitz [ Adult Services ]

Start your new year off on the right foot by joining our monthly book club. January's selection is The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. This historical fiction novel is a vivid, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful re-creation of Lale Sokolov's experiences as the man who tattooed the arms of thousands of prisoners with what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust. The Tattooist of Auschwitz is also a testament to the endurance of love and humanity under the darkest possible conditions. Books are available at the help desk. All are welcome!

Macramé Keychain with Mama's Macramé —Registration Required [ Adult Services ]

This is knot your everyday program! Join us as Brandy Frank of Mama's Macramé teaches an introductory macramé class where you will create your own one-of-a-kind boho macramé keychain. Teen Advisory Board [ Teen Services ]

Is there a certain program you would love to attend at the library? Do you have suggestions for how to improve the library's teen area or programming? Join the teen librarian, Katrina, at the Teen Advisory Board meeting and share your ideas on how to improve the library and plan future programming.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Looking to add items to your home library? Make sure you swing by the Friends of the Library Book Sale in the Milan library community room to check out the huge selection of books, DVDs, and CDs available to make a part of your collection.

Join us for a fun, hands-on introduction to fountain pens and how to get started using and/or collecting them. Discover the different parts that make up a fountain pen, what makes fountain pen inks special, what to look for when selecting a pen and/or ink, and how to write with one. Swing by to check out a myriad of popular planner systems, journals, and accessories — from Hobonichis, Traveler's Notebooks, and Stalogy 365s to the Crop-A-Dile and 1-2-3 Punchboard. And try out Jinhao fountain pens, Sarasa fine-nib pens, Tombow brush pens, Staedtler fineliners, and more to see which supplies help bring your lettering to a whole new level. Back to the Wild will be here to with an all-ages, in-depth presentation with Ohio's raptors, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. There will be live animals and time for questions.

STEM Club — Crystal Snowflakes [ Children's Services ]

STEM Club offers opportunities for kids ages 5-12 to creatively explore science, technology, engineering, and math through our stocked STEM cart and various activities. This month, we will be making crystal snowflakes.

Memorializing the Holocaust & Its Relevance Today [ Adult Services ]

In recognition of this year's International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we examine the importance of memorialization and why the study of the Shoah is relevant in today's world. Through the stories of Holocaust survivors, we will better understand this tragedy and the mission we all carry today.
