Miles Sanders is set to take part in the most important training camp of his career and as the former Penn State star looks to land a new contract, the talented running back will have to avoid the injury bug.

Sanders has missed multiple games each of the past two seasons, and that’s prevented a player who’s among the league leaders in yards per carry, from eclipsing that vaunted 1,000-yard rushing mark in a season.

During recent sitdowns with John Clark of NBC Sports and Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, Sanders talked about his youth football camp, avoiding injuries, and what A.J. Brown has brought to the Eagles.

Sanders has played in just 12 games in each of his last two years and didn’t avoid the obvious questions about durability.

“I’m going to be honest, there’s a lot of injuries in this sport that you can’t control. It’s a very physical sport,” Sanders said to Clark. “Like a broken hand, you cannot control that. It happens. Ankles and stuff like that, that’s on me.

“But being healthy is … it’s going to get better. I can say that. A lot of stuff goes into playing this sport. Everybody does not stay healthy (the whole season). It’s just trying to stay healthy all throughout the year. You gotta do your best. Gotta be consistent with what you do every day.”

Sanders has goals off the field as well and he’d love to win the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his endeavors and service in the community.

There’s a lot more I wanna do. I wanna go into the community and build certain buildings where parents and young adults can go and get information about financials — real estate, taxes, credit, all that — because we grow up not learning that stuff in high school. Just to educate the community. I wanna build YMCA-type buildings where kids, instead of going out in the street, can go play basketball, go play football, anything you can do to keep these kids off the streets. I don’t wanna just do stuff in the football atmosphere. … It’s a vision, it’s a big vision right now, but we have been taking steps into making it happen. I’m getting my foundation finished, so everything’s moving.

Last season in 12 games, Sanders had 137 carries in 12 games to lead the Eagles’ running back rotation, and even with him missing five games, Philadelphia still led the NFL in rushing.

“Being consistent, being more consistent,” Sanders said. “I’m going to be honest, opportunities. I’ll just say it simple like that. I need to be more consistent but I need opportunities.”

Sanders looks around the room and sees the star power.

Oh man. We all feel like we’re on an all-star team, so we feel great. We feel unstoppable, I’m not gonna lie. The vibes are great, always have been. Nick Sirianni is doing a great job just keeping the vibes right, the chemistry good. We compete a lot in practice. But we’ve gotta see. Its gonna come down to camp, taking it day by day, putting everything together.
