Miles woman takes off with Blue Angels

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A woman from the town of Miles, Texas, has officially fallen in with the United States Navy’s Blue Angels after having trained for months to earn her crest.

Alisea Meza joined 46 other team members in being congratulated on Feb. 10 by the Blue Angels through a Facebook post. She can be seen smiling alongside an instructor and a Navy aircraft while holding her Blue Angels crest.

Meza, an LS2 within the Blue Angels, is now officially part of the squadron’s Logistics Department. According to the Blue Angels website, the department “researches, procures, stores and dispatches spare parts, tools and uniforms.” Personnel also “research future squadron logistical needs and initiate contracts for services required to support daily operations.”

The Blue Angels squadron, officially known as the Navy Flight Demonstration Squad, has soared through the skies since its inception in 1946 when Adm. Chester Nimitz, then-chief of U.S. naval operations, grew interested in raising public interest in naval aviation and boosting Navy morale. The group has taken part in countless demonstrations during its 78 years of life, astounding audiences with spectacles of aerial prowess with the goal of inspiring “young men and women, not just to pursue a career in Naval aviation or the military, but to excel in all areas of their lives.”

“Each performance provides the American public an opportunity to view the incredible capabilities of our service members serving aboard every ship, squadron and unit in the United States Navy and Marine Corps,” the squadron said on its website. “It is our goal to see that tomorrow’s leaders will be inspired and motivated by what they see our men and women accomplishing today.”
