Miley Cyrus Got a New Tattoo and Some Think It’s About Liam Hemsworth

Lots to unpack.

Miley Cyrus is celebrating her freedom with brand new ink. Over the weekend, the pop star debuted two new tattoos, and some have speculated one could be a subtle nod to her recent split from Liam Hemsworth.

As Just Jared Jr. points out, tattoo artist Daniel Winter shared the work he did for Miley on Instagram. For the newest addition to her evergrowing ink collection, Miley chose the word "freedom" written just above her knuckles, and a note from Yoko Ono, which read "I'm proud of you," written on her shoulder.

Miley hasn't yet addressed what inspired her recent trip to the tattoo artist, and what's behind her choice of the word “freedom,” but some publications have theorized it could be her way of celebrating the beginning of a new relationship. As previously reported, Miley and Liam announced their separation in August. The pair had been married for less than a year at the time.

While it's possible that Miley is using the ink to commemorate her journey post-Liam, the word “freedom” could also be a nod to her song "Mother's Daughter." The track does include the line, "Don't f*ck with my freedom," and Daniel's Instagram caption that accompanies the ink includes the hashtag #mothersdaughter.

The meaning of this ink ultimately remains a mystery for now, but this isn't the first time that speculation has arisen about the meaning behind Miley’s tattoos. Performing at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, Miley was seen sporting another freedom-inspired ink, and was spotted with a lyrics from The Pixies on her left arm. The tattoo reads, "My head was feeling scared, but my heart was feeling free," and naturally, many believed the work could have been related to her recently announced separation.

Until Miley weighs in on the meaning (and if she ever decides to do so) we can only admire her inks for their beauty.
