Consigli officials said the Lincoln Memorial project will add 15,000 square feet of exhibit space that will provide a look at the Lincoln Memorial’s foundations in a cavernous area known as the undercroft.

New exhibits and multimedia presentations will highlight the construction history of the memorial and discuss how it has become the nation’s foremost backdrop for civil rights demonstrations.

Consigli said the project will also include new restrooms, a larger bookstore and refurbished elevator. The firm will install new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and security systems.

Phil Brault, director of operations for Consigli’s Washington, D.C., office and mid-Atlantic project executive, said the company is “well-equipped” to deliver upgrades and improvements to the monument.

“We are committed to successfully completing this project through a thoughtful approach that will ensure continued, uninterrupted access to this invaluable monument,” Brault said.

Consigli said it is known for its historic preservation work in the mid-Atlantic, previously working with the Smithsonian Institution, Architect of the Capitol and the National Park Service.

Locally, the company has worked extensively with Milford Regional Medical Center on its expansion projects, renovated many banks and, in the early 1980s, repointed the facade of Milford’s Sacred Heart Church.

Today, Consigli boasts more than 1,600 employees (including 650 skilled carpenters, laborers and masons) and approximately $2.3 billion in annual volume, according to its website. It has 10 regional offices in the Northeast, from Portland, Maine, to Washington, D.C.
