Military Aid societies join forces to raise funds for service members & families

PANAMA CITY − Four military aid societies have joined to raise money for service members and families for Giving Tuesday.

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Air Force Aid Society, Army Emergency Relief and the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance will engage in a friendly competition called #Battle4BraggingRights.

According to a news release, all four societies are four-star Charity Navigator-rated nonprofit organizations. Each organization is a 501c3 that provides financial support to their service-specific clients through zero-interest loans, grants, disaster assistance, scholarships and several other needs-based programs and services.

Giving Tuesday started in 2012 as a worldwide day of giving. Last year's campaign raised more than $1.25 million.

"We want to exceed our goal from last year," said Lt. Gen. Robert R. Ruark, president and CEO of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. "A lot of troops have benefited from this program and we want to make sure our troops are taken care of."

Ruark said he wants each military aid program to raise $250,000 to help eclipse last year's success.
