Milk run to 7-Eleven leads to $1 million lottery win for ‘lucky’ Maryland woman

A 22-year-old Maryland woman was on her way home when she remembered she needed milk. While she was picking some up at a 7-Eleven, she decided to try her luck at the lottery and bought a $20 ticket.

It ended up being the $1 million top prize winning scratch-off, according to a news release by the Maryland Lottery.

The woman, a 22-year-old from Prince George’s County, just started working at a preschool, the release said. Her mom is a regular scratch-off player who enjoys playing the Million Dollar Mega Multiplier game, so that’s what her daughter — a lottery novice — chose.

It wasn’t until the next day, however, that she realized her new wealth.

She and her mom were in her room when she started scratching the instant ticket and revealed a $50,000 match, the release said. She excitedly scratched off more $50,000 matches “until it dawned on her that she won the game’s $1 million top prize,” the release said.

“I jumped on the bed and started laughing,” she told the Maryland Lottery. “My mom started crying.”

Her trip to the store for milk “led to a Lottery scratch-off win so big that she could, if she wished, buy her own heard of dairy cows,” the release said.

She plans to buy a home, she told lottery officials, invest some of it and help family members and friends in need.
