Millage renewals for Lenawee District Library, Woodstock Township pass

Two millage renewals that were on the Aug. 8 primary election ballot were both approved with resounding “yes” votes.

A millage renewal proposal for the Lenawee District Library passed in Tuesday’s primary with a tally of 3,005 yes to 1,195 no.

The library sought renewal of its operating millage for 10 years, through 2032. The millage, 0.5998 mill, is expected to raise $1,283,000 in 2023, according to the proposal. The owner of property with a taxable value of $100,000 would pay $59.98 each year toward the library's operations.

Sixteen total precincts reported voting numbers for the library’s millage. Of those 16 precincts, 4,222 votes were cast out of 33,179 registered voters, or 12.72% of the voting population.

The Lenawee District Library serves people who are not already served by one of these libraries: the Adrian District Library, the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library in Blissfield, the Clinton Township Public Library, the Hudson Carnegie District Library, the Stair District Library in Morenci or the Tecumseh District Library.

In Woodstock Township, a fire millage renewal was also easily passed with 336 yes to 83 no.

The fire millage is a 0.75-mill levy through 2026 for fire department operations, that if approved, the owner of property with a taxable value of $100,000 would pay $75 a year for fire department services.
