UPDATED: Millburn To Get Coronavirus Testing Site Next Week

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn will get its own coronavirus testing site just for one day next week, Mayor Jackie Lieberberg said in an update last week.

On Thursday, the county of Essex sent out more details for mobile testing sites (Millburn is this coming Thursday):

  • Monday, Sept. 21, 4 to 6 p.m., Belleville High School, 100 Passaic Avenue, Belleville

  • Tuesday, Sept. 22, 4 to 6 p.m., Verona Community Pool, 257 Fairview Avenue, Verona

  • Thursday, Sept. 24, 4 to 6 p.m., Millburn Commuter Lot, 188 Glen Ave., Millburn

  • Friday, Sept. 25, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Essex County Weequahic Park, Meeker Avenue entrance, Newark (Walk up appointments are available at this location.)

Lieberberg said Friday that 175 Millburn Township residents had tested positive since the beginning of the pandemic. A total of six residents have passed away due to the virus.

Essex County was reporting 20,366 residents having tested positive for coronavirus, a little over 10 percent of the state's positive tests.

Statewide, as of this past Wednesday, New Jersey had recorded a total of 197,792 confirmed cases and 14,263 confirmed fatalities.

  • Right now, there are 159 long term care facilities (such as nursing homes) in New Jersey with active outbreaks, the state Department of Health said on Wednesday. The state also announced that deaths at the facilities had more than doubled since May 1. The state announced it will make some long-term changes for the facilities.   • In school news, Westfield High School closed for two weeks as of Thursday after six students tested positive for the virus. Read more about that here.

HOW TO GET HELP WITH HEAT, RENT, AND MORE

  • During the State of Emergency in New Jersey, no tenant is permitted to be evicted from their home or apartment for the inability to pay rent. Talk to your local mayor's office if you are experiencing difficulties.

  • The CARES act has made money available to help with rent in each city. More information is here.

  • New Jersey residents can get help with heating and energy bills. Information is here.

  • Various other avenues of relief and benefits have also been made available, including family leave for 12 weeks if you can't work due to your child's school or camp being closed, and changes to unemployment rules to help those who were at a job for a short time, or freelancing.

LONG-TERM CARE

The state also announced that deaths at the facilities had more than doubled since May 1. The state announced it will make some long-term changes for the facilities.

  • New Jersey residents have become alarmed at the high number of residents who have passed away in nursing homes, rehabs, and similar facilities. The state announced plans in May to increase testing at some long term care facilities and to bring in the National Guard to help make changes.

  • Some New Jersey long-term care facilities reopened for limited visits, with precautions, in July.
