Millcreek School Board to review proposals for subcontracted custodial services Tuesday

BusPatrol camera systems on Millcreek school buses will provide an estimated $50,000 in revenue for the school district in 2024-25, from fines collected from drivers who illegally pass stopped buses.

The Millcreek Township School Board will review proposals from companies interested in providing custodial services in the district during a special public meeting Tuesday.

The meeting also will include presentations by prospective contractors. Seven firms have submitted proposals to provide custodial services in schools and other district buildings for three years beginning July 1, said Aaron O'Toole, director of finance and operations for the school district.

The district currently employs its own custodians. Their contract with the district expires July 1.

The contract — approved in August 2020 and retroactive to July 1, 2016 — allows custodians to compete against private firms if the district considers outsourcing the jobs. Employees will be able to submit a proposal to continue their work in the district after the private proposals are reviewed, O'Toole said.

The district employs 53 custodians represented by the Millcreek Township Education Support Professionals Association.

Tuesday's meeting and hearing will be held at McDowell Intermediate High School and via Zoom at 6 p.m. Registrations for the Zoom meeting are accepted on the district website at mtsd.org.
