Miller excited to shine with the Stars in softball

Dec. 18—As a top star at Duncan High School, softball senior KK Miller is excited to shine with the Oklahoma City University Stars in softball for her collegiate career.

Miller, a three star athlete for Duncan High School, was one of four signees who had their ceremony last week to make their decision to play at the next level officially.

Mainly playing catcher for the 2022 season, the Lady Demons senior was selected as a utility member of the Large West All-State team as part of her end of the season honors.

Oklahoma City University has been one of the premiere softball programs and most recently won an NAIA National Championship in the spring of 2022.

Being part of a successful softball program is one of the things that helped Miller make the decision, and she felt at ease when making a visit, ultimately deciding it was the right fit to play softball.

"Being up there, I just really felt at home and they are a very hard working team and are national champions as recently as last year," Miller said. "I felt really pushed and moved to go to a team that works hard constantly and it shows."

During her senior season, Miller was part of a State Tournament team, which is always going to be a memory for her. She will always remember being a part of a milestone victory for head coach Robert Cowan.

"Some of my favorite memories from softball is probably when we went to Branson and got Coach Cowan his 600th win — that means a lot to me to be a part of that and obviously making it to the state for the first time in a while," Miller said. "Basketball, I love it all the time and we get to go to the Chesapeake (Paycom) Arena again this year and I just love to work hard with my team."

While Miller will represent Duncan several times this year for her other sports, she said having everyone there to support her signing was a big thrill and thanked everyone for being in her corner.

"I have been supported the entire time that I have been here and I wouldn't ask for anybody else to support me better," Miller said. "My mom, my dad, aunts, uncles, grandparents, my softball, my pitching coach and all of my coaches — they have always supported me, my friends, my teammates. They have constantly supported me throughout this whole journey and I couldn't be more thankful."

Miller was one of four who signed during the winter signing ceremony at Duncan High School. Miller joined Jace Black, Baylor Bostick and Caden Stevens in the same ceremony.
