Miller-Sage second; Vogus first at sectionals

Oct. 9—FREMONT — Two Norwalk girls tennis doubles teams earned second and fourth, respectively, on Saturday in the championship rounds of the Division I sectional tournament at Fremont Ross High School.

The team of Megan Miller and Sidney Sage defeated Tiffin Columbian's Lydia Ridner and Mackenzie Davis (6-2, 6-0) to reach the sectional title match. The pair — who played first and second singles all season — then fell in a tight three-set match in the championship to Ashland's Morgan Kaufman and Chloe Ediger by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Also for Norwalk, the doubles team of Ana Osborn and Kenzie Smith placed fourth. They fell in the semifinals to Ediger and Kaufman (6-0, 6-1).

Miller and Sage will be a No. 2 seed at the district tournament on Wednesday at Port Clinton, while Osborn and Smith will be seeded fourth.

DIVISION II

Vogus wins singles title

SHELBY — Edison senior Alli Vogus continued her singles dominance this season by winning a pair of matches on Saturday to win the Division II sectional title at Shelby High School.

Vogus opened with a win over Galion's Emma Ross (6-2, 6-0) in the semifinal round. In the finals, she then topped Lexington's Jade Adkins (6-4, 6-4) to earn a No. 1 seed at the district tournament in Port Clinton.

Also from the area, Willard's Maelyn Shaarda and Moriah Slone won their semifinal match on Saturday, beating the Kurtz siblings from Ontario (6-3, 6-4). In the doubles final, the duo for the Flashes fell to Lexington's Malaina Wolfe and Madison Carns (6-2, 6-2), and earned a No. 2 seed at the district.
