Millersburg hosts meet the candidates night at American Hall

MILLERSBURG − Six of the seven candidates running for two seats on the Holmes County Board of Commissioners shared their thoughts and concerns at an open house hosted Wednesday eveing.

The event was hosted by Millersburg Mayor Kelly Hoffee at the renovated American Hall reception hall in Millersburg.

Commissioner Joe Miller will be seeking a fifth term against challenger Ervin Yoder, who was unable to attend.

The other five candidates, Dustin Kaufman, Eric Strouse, Holley Johnson, Dave Crilow and Steve Johnson, answered questions posed by moderator Shane Cultice. The submitted questions addressed budgeting, management, plans for the future, how they overcame a failure and other issues. Each candidate was given an opportunity to answer.

Many of the nearly 70 people who attended came to see the new venue American Hall provides.

"This facility is beautiful," Susan Schie said. "I hope it gets plenty of use."

Jason Troyer added he appreciates how they kept the historic integrity of the building while making the upgrades and improvements bringing it up to code, which included an elevator.

"This is a beautiful building and is a great addition to Millersburg and Holmes County," Troyer said.

Les Roach and Mark Lytle were among the early arrivals and were treated to a tour of the four Airbnbs. They both agreed the work done on the building is impressive.

Dan Miller, a Millersburg Realtor, noted he appreciates the Kaufmans added housing to the community.

Mayor Hoffee thanked the Kaufmans for opening up hall for the evening and sharing their space.
