Millersport news: 94th MHS Alumni Banquet to be held in May

Plans are in progress for the 94th Millersport High School Alumni Banquet after having been put on hold for the past several years due to COVID-19. The banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 27 in the Walnut Township School District Auditorium, 11850 Lancaster Street in Millersport. The cost of the two-entrée buffet meal will be $20 per person. Cards will be mailed to those alumni whose addresses are on file. Alumni who would like to attend but do not receive a card may send their reservation with a check made payable to: Millersport Alumni Association, 3226 Southbank Road, Millersport, Ohio, 43046. Please include the year of graduation on the memo line. Those who are not attending are asked to send $1 to help cover the mailing costs. Those who would like to be contacted via e-mail may send their information to billyates@walnuttownship.com. Any classes who are planning class reunions around the time of the banquet are asked to share information so seating may be arranged for larger groups. TWIG 13

Millersport TWIG 13 of Fairfield Medical Center met April 17 in the fellowship hall of the Millersport United Methodist Church. President Jennifer Kilbarger welcomed the nine members present. Drenille Keener was recognized with an April birthday. President Kilbarger conducted the business meeting.

Eight members attended the FMC Foundation TWIGS Recognition Dinner that was held on April 12th at Crossroads on West Fair Avenue in Lancaster. The theme for the evening was “Casino Night.” The ladies enjoyed a delicious meal, recognition of members, games, and prizes.

The annual Spring Homemade Pie Sale was discussed. After much discussion, it was decided to have the Pie Sale on Saturday, May 27th at the Circle K Station on Lancaster Street. The sale will begin at 8:30 a.m. until the pies are gone. The price of the pies will be $15 each. The TWIG will also offer “Bundtlet Cakes” from Nothing Bundt Cakes for $6.00 each. All proceeds will benefit the patients of Fairfield Medical Center.

The next meeting of TWIG 13 will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 15 in the church fellowship hall. Anyone who is interested in joining the TWIG should contact President Kilbarger, any TWIG member or attend the next meeting. New members are always welcome.

Shredding Day

Shredding Day will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Friday, May 5 at the Village of Millersport Municipal Building, 2245 Refugee Street in Millersport. There is a limit of five boxes of paper materials

Walnut Township Trustees

The Walnut Township Trustees held a special meeting at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20th in the Walnut Township Schools District Auditorium, 11850 Lancaster Street in Millersport. The purpose of the meeting was to present information on the North Walnut Township Stormwater Conveyance Study. Several guest speakers were introduced. An overview of the area being studied was shown with the projected goals and tasks to alleviate the flooding that takes place in the area. An analysis of the possible alternatives to complete the project was given as well as the needed funding. Residents in attendance were given the opportunity to give comments, ask questions and review the maps and diagrams of the project.

Students of the Month

Kindergarten registration

Children who will be five years old by Aug. 1, may be eligible to start kindergarten in the fall. Please call the Millersport Elementary Office at 740-467-2216 to start the registration process.

Senior citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens met at noon Friday, April 21st in the Lions Clubhouse on Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport with 20 members present. President Ed Otte led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and singing “America.” Nancy Davis offered a prayer.

Following the potluck lunch President Otte conducted the business meeting. The group discussed ideas for a trip. The Door Prizes were won by John Hoermle, Carol Kitzmiller, Floyd Hart, Mary Dupler, Judy Harris, Carol King, Liz Hoermle, Alice Graham, Barb Voehringer, Karen Mosher, and Anita Bailey. Mary Dupler ended the meeting reading a poem “The Old Wheelchair” which was written by her aunt. The meeting was adjourned for cards and Bingo.

Millersport High School Art students were present to do a painting with any senior citizens who were interested. The students led the seniors in a step-by-step painting of an ocean scene. Thanks to the students for sharing their talents.
