Millersport news: All-Breed Training Club offering classes

The Millersport Lions Club is hosting the Columbus All-Breed Training Club, which will offer classes at the Historic Lions Park, 2905 Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport. The trials will run March 25 and 26. There is a limit of 125 entries per judge per day or until judging hour limits are reached. The following classes will be offered: Interiors, Containers, Buried, Exteriors, and Detective. There will be Novice, Advanced, Excellent, and Masters in each class. The Detective Class will be limited to 20 entries per trial. The trials will be held indoors and outdoors or outdoors under cover. Trial hours are Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check-in will be from 7:45 to 8:15 daily. Handler’s Briefing will be at 8:30 a.m. Permission is granted by the American Kennel Club for the holding of this event under American Kennel Club rules and regulations.

Easter breakfast and egg hunt

The Millersport Lions Club will hold their annual Easter Breakfast and Egg Hunt from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1 at the Lions Clubhouse on Chautauqua Boulevard. The menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, sausage gravy, and biscuits. All for a donation of $5. Kids 3 years of age and younger eat free. Kids 12 years of age and younger may join in the Easter Egg Hung beginning at 11 a.m. The Lions appreciate Bower & Sons donating the meat for the breakfast.

Senior citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens met March 17 in the Millersport Lions Clubhouse with 16 members present. The group was welcomed by President Ed Otte who opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and singing “America." Nancy Davis offered the prayer before the potluck lunch.

President Otte conducted the business meeting. Door prizes were won by Carolyn Ricketts, Marty Holtz, Barb Voehringer, Pam Ricketts, Ed Otte, Carol King, Evelyn Worrell, Mary Sue Slater, and Dave Holtz. The meeting was adjourned for cards and Bingo. The Millersport Junior/Senior High School Student Council visited with the senior citizens and played bingo and cards with them. The students who are also part of the Sign Language Classes signed the Pledge of Allegiance for the group.

Walnut Township Trustees

The Walnut Township Trustees held a special meeting March 14 in the township office. The Trustees with Road Supervisor Nathan Wagner discussed the design, location and construction of a new salt barn.

The Trustees, Walnut Township Fire Chief, and the Assistant Fiscal Officer discussed the following issues:

  • Approval of three full-time firefighters to fulfill the stipulations of the million dollars+ SAFER Grant

  • Approval of one full-time Assistant Chief and the job description

  • Approval of $1 per hour raise for all part-time fire personnel in their respective pay grade

  • Approval of an increase in salary for the position of Fire Chief

  • Approval of Walnut Township Fire Department personnel job description/personnel work agreement that pertains to full-time firefighters

  • Approval of Walnut Township Fire Department SOP/SOG manual, including job descriptions for all Fire Department personnel

The trustees also discussed a Community Infrastructure Project Funding Grant.

Career Center students recognized

Students from Eastland-Fairfield Career and Technical Schools Multimedia Satellite Program located in Pickerington North High School participated in the Business Professionals of America Region 14 competition. Makenzie Gossel-Smith and Amy Harrison were on one of the teams that finished first place in their event – User Experience Design Team using Adobe XD and advanced to the BPA State Leadership Conference held March 9. Congratulations for all the hard work and team effort to advance to the state competition.

Walnut Township Local Schools Board of Education

The Walnut Township Board of Education met March 13 in the Laker Learning Center of Millersport High School. During the public participation segment of the meeting the board recognized the Winter Sports Award winners, the BPA Regional Competition winners, gave Staff Certificates of Appreciation, and heard from Student Liaison Evan Sweet.The minutes and Treasurer’s Reports were approved. Reports were given by the Principals, the Policy Development; Legislative Review Committee, the Food Service Supervisor, and the Superintendent.The following Superintendent’s Recommendations were approved:

  • Adoption of the 2023-2024 School Calendar

  • Supplemental Athletic Job Descriptions

  • Core Services Agreement with META Solutions

  • Donation from Laker PTO of $264.00 for restroom signage

  • Facility Usage Requests

  • March Substitute Teacher List

  • Membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association

  • Amendments to the 2023-2024 High School Course Description Book

  • First reading was given three policies.

The board discussed board policy concerning telephone services.

The board voted to enter into executive session to consider the employment of a public employee. There was to be no action to follow.
