Millersport news: Eastern Star Chapter honors long-time members

The Millersport Eastern Star Chapter recently honored their long-time members. Clara Haley was presented with her 60-year pin by her daughter Mikki, a 50-year member. Clara is still an active member holding an office and is still doing installation for neighboring OES chapters. She has been very active district and state wide. Others receiving their pins are Charlotte Izyk 25-year; Carol Abbot, Michelle Hilyard, Sharon Tiloton 50-year; Judy Hendershot, Sally Hall, Joan Wedge, Jo Ann Hargus, Mary Schisler, Anna Mohler, Mary Holder 60-year; Jerri Steele 65-year; Doris Dupler, Mary Ann Edwards 70-year; and Ruth Bibler 75 years.

MCT president "Shrek: The Musical"

Millersport Community Theatre’s production of “Shrek: The Musical” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. July 8 and 9 and at 2 p.m. July 10. The house will open 30 minutes prior to show time. The show will take place in the Millersport School Auditorium, 11850 Lancaster Street in Millersport. Tickets are $15 reserved seating and are first-come first-served. Tickets can be reserved online or purchased at the door depending on availability.

“Shrek: The Musical” is based on the famous Dreamworks franchise of the same name, is a contemporary comedy musical about everyone’s favorite Ogre, Shrek, on a great and noble quest to get his swamp back. Along the way, he makes some new friends, saves a princess, and realizes that fairytales should really be updated. MCT’s production, led by Millersport’s own Josh Whetstone, is a show for all ages as it is rated G. Some Millersport faces that may be recognized include Brenton LeuVoy, Johanna Whetstone-LeuVoy, Lynda Whetstone, McKayla Murphy, Evan Bruckelmeyer, and many more.

Community Market

The Millersport Community Market will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at the Founder’s Commons of the Sweet Corn Festival grounds on Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport.

Village Council

Millersport Village Council met June 14. The Activities Committee set the dates of July 16 featuring Sweetwater and Aug. 20 featuring The Roxy Jane Band for the Music in the Park series. Thursday, Oct. 27 is set for Trick-or-Treat and Monster Mash II.

The Sewer Report showed that due to earlier high rains, Stutske Construction used their vacuum truck and cleaned out the lift station at the plant. Because of the debris that flows to the sewer plant the system needs to be vacuumed every three months as part of a preventative program. There will also be a repair to a section of sewer line from the Olde Canal Restaurant to Hometown Hotdog.

The Street Department shows the Village Solicitor is working on the Cincinnati Insurance lien and the role of ADR, DuraSeal and Kokosing Materials. It was learned that DuraSeal has been reorganized and may no longer be in business.

Millersport Police Chief Mark Consolo sent statistics for the month of May. The department issued 22 traffic warnings, three traffic citations, had 12 dispatch runs and five mutual aid runs.

Walnut Township Fire Chief Robert Price sent run totals for the month of May. Station 631 made 47 runs, Station 632 made 23 runs and Station 633 made 25 runs. Walnut Township made 29 mutual aid runs.

CT Consultants recommended that council award the meter bid to NECO Water and the tower bid to D & M Painting. Council passed resolutions approving contracts for meters and the painting and restorations. Both projects are to be started this summer and to be completed by the end of 2022.

The Ohio Water Development Authority granted a 1.73% ten-year loan to the village for the two projects. Also, the village has a separate quote to clean the two wells that are not part of the OWDA projects.

Fiscal Officer Susan Ramsey sent the 2023 budget electronically to council for the first reading. The full budget will be ready for the July meeting.

Tom Nebbergall found a company from Florida that does brick engraving that cost approximately $20 per brick without insignia and $26 per brick with the branch of service.

A resolution was approved concerning Canal Drive and Chautauqua Boulevard for the Sweet Corn Festival 5K.

The village organized and planned the Memorial Day Parade with the help of Donna Holycross, Suzy Peters, Angela Centofani and Amber Hetteberg. The staff of Commodore Bank (Donna, Shana, Kara and Joseph) helped Carol Kitzmiller with the bike parade contestants. Gilbert Arnold and Dan Phelps designed and built the “flag wagon” (a flag designed bench on a trailer) that was used to transport the American Legion veterans to the cemetery. Shawn Carter and Tom Nebbergall set up and coordinated the sound system that Mayor Gary Matheny used to introduce Veteran Ruth Crutcher and Pastor Jim Condrey as guest speakers. The Millersport High School Marching Band played and marched in the parade and played the National Anthem at the bridge before the 21-gun Salute. The Millersport Community Theatre sang the National Anthem while the Millersport High School Sign Club signed it for the audience at the cemetery. A special thanks to Cindy Condrey, Rob Jordan and his son Jacob, Tom Brown, Judy Azeltine, Kylee Lines, Mayor Matheny, Gilbert Arnold and Dan Phelps for placing crosses and flags at the graves of our veterans. The Police and Fire Departments led and protected the parade routes and the Fairfield County Deputy assigned to our area also assisted with street closures. The parade and cemetery ceremony are a long-standing community tradition.
