Millersport news: High School partners with Blue Jackets for donation to MHS

The Columbus Blue Jackets have partnered with Millersport High School to support student achievement. Portions of every ticket sold through the provided link will be donated to MHS. Join Millersport classmates and their families for a night out at Nationwide Arena at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27. $10 of each upper bowl ticket sold and $20 of each lower bowl ticket will go back to Millersport Schools to support student achievement/effort recognition. Upper bowl tickets are $41 and lower bowl tickets are $69. Senior citizens

The Fairfield Beach Senior Citizens met Dec. 14 in the American Legion Hall in Millersport. Ham was provided as the main entrée for the potluck lunch. Marty Holtz led the group in singing some Christmas Carols. Prayer was offered by Gail Barber.

Following lunch President Carol Kitzmiller conducted the business meeting. The officers for 2023 will remain the same: President – Carol Kitzmiller, Vice President – Richard Neff, Secretary – Ruthanne Hammel, Treasurer – Drenille Keener, Assistant Treasurer and Chaplain – Ken Keener. Carol presented thank you gifts to the officers. There will be no entrée provided for the potluck at the January and February meetings in case of inclement weather. If school is cancelled in the Walnut Township Schools due to weather there will be no meeting. Those with December birthdays were Karen Mosher, Frances Runkel, Carol King, Carol Kitzmiller, Richard Neff and Kim Lutz. Liz and Larry Sanders celebrated their wedding anniversary. Door prizes were won by Ron Pairan, Gail Barber, Karen Pairan, Marty Holtz, Pat Miller and Karen Mosher. The afternoon ended with a Christmas gift exchange.

The next meeting will be held at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Anyone who is 55 years of age and older is encouraged to join for fun, food and fellowship.

Christmas Concert and Art Show

Millersport art and music students presented their Christmas Band Concert and Art Show on Dec. 14 in the district cafeteria and auditorium. The bands are directed by Tasia Savage. The art show was presented by Sarah Reed, junior/senior high art teacher.

The 5th and 6th Grade Band opened the concert with eight numbers followed by the Junior High Band. Marching Band acknowledgments were made prior to the High School Band performance.

Walnut Township Board of Education

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education me Dec. 12 in the Laker Learning Center of Millersport High School. The board recognized the fall sports athletes who received league, district and state honors. The Junior High Volleyball team was also recognized. The Student Liaison reported to the Board. The minutes and treasurer’s reports were approved.

Elementary Principal Kim Yenni reported on the Elementary Student Council activities that benefitted the resident of AlterCare at Thornport. She reported that upcoming activities included the Band Concert and Art Show, the Choral Concert, classes that would be shopping in town, and class parties.

Megan Terry, Junior/Senior High Principal, reported on the October and November Students of the Month, the Sophomore/Junior State House Fieldtrip, the choir performing for the Fairfield County Retired Teachers’ Association Christmas luncheon, students’ scores on the 2021-2022 state tests, and the White Christmas Project.

The Food Service Report was given. A Building & Grounds/Maintenance Committee report was given by Board member Vince Popo. Kyle Matthews reported on maintenance and transportation projects that are underway.

Superintendent Kim Radulovic reported on academic areas being worked on, student activities and requests, and Job Descriptions for supplementals.

The board passed a Resolution requesting certification of alternative tax rates for a renewal income tax.

The board will hold the reorganizational meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 immediately followed by the regular January meeting, in the Laker Learning Center. The board appointed Holly Armstrong to serve as President Pro-Tempore for the reorganizational meeting.

The board voted to enter into Executive Session to consider the employment and compensation of a public employee.
