Millersport news: Lions Club donates emergency lockdown kits to classrooms
The Millersport Lions Club held a multi-month service project to provide Emergency Lockdown/Shelter-in-Place Kits to 60 classrooms in the Walnut Township School system, covering grades K-12. Lions volunteered 30 hours and raised $2,000 to meet this need. Volunteers spent time placing beautifully designed Lions decals on the buckets, assembling and then delivering them to the school. Thanks to everyone who made this happen – Volunteers: Cyndi Condrey, Tamarra Parker-Stephens, Amber Hetteberg, Ron Yorde, Tina Chipukaizer, Jim Condrey, Loren Halla, Kris Keller and Diana Keller – Leos: Allison Foltz and Amy Allen – Non-Members: Stephanie and Tyler Workman.
Lions Club events
The Millersport Lions Club will hold several events in the month of December. The annual Christmas Breakfast and Elf Shelf will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from 12 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Lions Clubhouse.
Sweet Corn Festival
The next Sweet Corn Festival meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 in the Lions Clubhouse. The focus of the meeting will be the adoption of the 2023 Office Budget, ranking of equipment needs and Capital Improvements. Equipment needs identified at the October meeting include a new tractor, batteries for electric golf car, copier/printer, and a portable sound system for the car shows and Founder’s Common Stage.
The festival committee has approved the use of Historic Lions Park for the 2023 Spring Columbus All Breeds Training Club Scent Trials for a three-day weekend in March.
Lions Shawn and Tonya Carter and Ron and Kitty Keller were scheduled to attend the Ohio Festivals & Events Association Annual Convention and Trade Show in Sandusky, Ohio, on Nov. 11-13 to represent the Sweet Corn Festival.
Community Christmas
Several events are scheduled for the Village of Millersport’s Community Christmas. The annual Chocolate Hop will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. There will be plenty of holiday shopping and chocolate around town. Tickets for the event are $10 per person and are available at the Commodore Bank. A Country Christmas Concert with David Spires, Shawna Corder and Anthony Pope will be held from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. At 6 p.m. the Christmas Parade will travel through Millersport starting at Millersport Elementary School. Millersport’s Annual Tree Lighting and visit from Santa will begin at 6:15 p.m. A Community Christmas Party with live music and beverages will be held at the Lions Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m.
Senior citizens
The Millersport Senior Citizens met at noon Friday, November 18th in the Millersport Lions Clubhouse with fifteen members present.
President Ed Otte conducted the business meeting. Discussion was held on the December meetings. The Dec. 2 meeting will be a potluck lunch and the Dec. 16 meeting will be a meal catered by Bob Evans. Donations will be taken at the Dec. 2 meeting for the White Christmas Project. Members were asked to sign up for committee duties for the 2023 meetings. It was decided that both January and February meetings will be potluck with no entrée provided by the club in case of inclement weather and cancellation of meetings. The members were reminded that if school is cancelled in the Walnut Township Schools (Millersport) there will be no meeting. John Hammel and Carol King will serve on the nominating committee for officers for 2023. Judy Harris and Evelyn Worrell will serve on the December Kitchen Committee. Door Prizes were won by Marty Holtz, Mary Sue Slater, Bill Yates, Carolyn Ricketts, Dave Holtz, Pam Ricketts and Richard Neff. The meeting was adjourned for cards and Bingo.
Village Council
Millersport Village Council met Nov. 8 in the Municipal Building.
Millersport Police Chief Consolo sent statistics for the month of October. There were three traffic warnings and two dispatch runs. Walnut Township Fire Chief Price sent runs totals for the month of October – Station 631 had 32 runs, Station 632 had 17 runs and Station 633 had 36 runs. The department made 23 mutual aid runs.
D & M Painting began the 300,000 gallon water tank rehabbing and painting project.
An ordinance was given a second reading to increase water and sewer rates. The first reading was given an ordinance for additional appropriations in the water operating fund. A first reading was given an ordinance approving temporary appropriations.
Monster Mash II held on Oct. 27 was a success as kids strolled up and down Lancaster Street collecting large amounts of candy. Monster Mash II featured Roxey Jane and The Paul Clark Band. Special thanks goes to Commodore Bank, TWC Electric, Buckeye Lake Chamber of Commerce, Howard Hannah agent Debbi Popo, DeVault Mechanical, Steve Harlow and the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association.
Tom Nebbergall thanked Dan Phelps and McKayla Murphy for all the work they did at Miller Park and leaf pick-up. Bill Simpson thanked them for leaf pick-up and sweeping at the Millersport Food Pantry.
Council continued the discussion about (AR B&B) short-term rentals that began in October. Todd Marullo, owner of Purple Monkey along with Teresa Herbert introduced themselves and Todd’s presentation included the guidelines he uses to run his rentals and believes the village should charge a bed tax on short-term rentals. Councilman Thompson inquired how the school could benefit from these rentals. Information is being collected from neighboring communities concerning registration fees and regulating ordinances.
