Millersport news: Little Blessings Pre-School will hold its 2nd annual spaghetti dinner

The Little Blessings Pre-School will hold its 2nd annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Millersport Lions Clubhouse on Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport. All donations go directly back to the preschool. The funds are used to cover special events such as trips, holiday parties/activities, playground updates, etc. Takeouts will be available

Drug collection and electronics recycling

There will be a Drug Collection & Electronics Recycling Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Walnut Township Fire Department, 2435 Blacklick-Eastern Road in Millersport. Entry will be through the Broad Street entrance.

Prescription pills and capsules will be collected. No aerosols, inhalers, creams, gels, ointments, powders, patches, suppositories, syringes, or IVs will be accepted. Please black out all personal information in advance.

Electronic items collected include but not limited to computers, laptops, printers, cables, mouses, keyboards, discs, electronic clocks, VHS/DVD players, radios and cell phones. TVs will be $1 per diagonal inch. Computer monitors are $5 each. Only cash and checks will be accepted as payment for disposal fees.

For drug collection questions call the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office at 740-652-7900. Electronic recycling questions should be directed to Fairfield Soil and Water Conservation District at 740-653-8154.

Senior citizens

The Fairfield Beach Senior Citizens met at noon Wednesday, April 12th at the American Legion Hall on Canal Drive in Millersport. President Carol Kitzmiller welcomed the 16 members present. She led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and singing America. Ken Keener offered the prayer. The group enjoyed fried chicken for the main entrée for the potluck lunch.

President Kitzmiller conducted the business meeting. Drenille Keener was recognized with an April birthday. Discussion was held on ideas for the June Trip. Mary Dupler gave inspirational readings. Door prizes were won by Ruthanne Hammel, Dave Holtz, Mary Dupler, Carol Kitzmiller, Richard Neff, Ken Keener, Liz Hoermle, John Hammel, Anita Bailey, Bill Yates, John Hoermle, Karen Mosher, Marty Holtz, Carol King, Drenille Keener, and Nancy Davis.

The next meeting will be held at noon Wednesday, May 10 at the American Legion Hall. Anyone who is 55 years of age and older is encouraged to join.

Board of Education

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education met in regular session April 10 in the Laker Learning Center. Members of the Junior Class were present to give invitations to the board members for the 2023 Junior-Senior Prom. Sharon Lawrence was presented with a “Teacher Recognition Award” in appreciation of her outstanding contributions as Elementary Media Specialist.

The minutes of the March meeting and the Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Junior/Senior High School Principal Megan Terry reported on the “March Students of the Month”, the band and choir students’ visit to OU-L to see “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”, juniors and seniors visit to the career expo, junior high spring dance, a presentation by the Major Crimes Unit’s Outreach program, State Testing, and the many upcoming special dates.

Kim Yenni, elementary principal’s report included Kindergarten Screening, testing, an author visit, and Junior Olympics.

Reports were given on the recent meetings of the Policy Development, Legislative Review Committee and the Extra Co-Curricular, Health & Safety Committee. A report was given on upcoming athletic events.Superintendent Radulovich reported on interviews for a custodian, interviews for a Maintenance/Transportation Director following the resignation of Mr. Mathews, and applications for grants.

Items of discussion were: setting a date and time for a special board meeting for the Five-Year Forecast – to be held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 24; moving sixth grade to the junior/senior high school building.

The board voted to enter into executive session for the purpose to consider the employment and compensation of a public employee. No action followed executive session.
