Millersport news: Music in the Park, Lions Community Market this weekend

The Village of Millersport presents Music in the Park, a free concert, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mathias Miller Park Gazebo. Bring a chair or blanket to sit and enjoy the music! David Spires will be singing and strumming some of his favorite country music – originals, 90’s to today.

Start early at some of Millersport’s local businesses. The Millersport Deli, Hometown Hotdogs, Roxy’s Pizza, Canal Restaurant, Millersport Coffee, 52 Nutrition, and Lakebound Pizza are only a few steps away.

Community market

The Millersport Lions Community Market will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival grounds. The vendors are comprised of family farms from the surrounding communities and other local small businesses.

Boat parade

The 2022 Independence Day Boat Parade will take place beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2. The theme of the parade is “Your Patriotic Superhero!” - Superheroes, Special Forces, Public Defenders or Patriotic. The parade will start at Lieb’s Island. The Grand Marshals for this year’s parade are Ron and Trudy Craig and Lou Maresca.

This year’s prizes are: “Most Patriotic” - $200 award sponsored by the Buckeye Lake Chamber of Commerce

“Most Creative” - $200 award sponsored by the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association

Lions Club events

The Lions Club will hold their Program Gathering at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23. The new officers’ induction will take place at this meeting.

The 104th Lions Club International Convention will be held in Montreal June 24 through June 28.

The Millersport Community Market will be held on Saturday, June 25.

Walnut Township Board of Education

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education met June 13.

High School Principal Megan Terry reported on graduation, state test scores, the Spring Art Show, Industry Credentials Grant and summer school.

Kim Yenni, Elementary Principal, reported on Mr. Stout’s summer drama camp, committee changes for next year, Responsive Classroom program and other positive changes for the elementary school.

Superintendent Will Kirby reported on the HVAC Project, the Track Project, Industry Credentials Grant, need for nominees for “Friend of Public Education” and “Exemplary Employee” awards, virtual school with ESC and a legislative update.

A resolution requesting certification of alternative tax rates for a renewal income tax was approved.

The board voted to enter into Executive Session to consider the employment and compensation of a public employee, and to discuss details relative to the security arrangements and emergency response protocols for the board of education.
