Millersport news: Village sets trick-or-treat time; receives ARPA funds

Millersport Village Council met Sept. 13 in the Municipal Building. Thursday, Oct. 27 has been set for trick-or-treat and Monster Mash II featuring Roxey Jane and The Paul Clark Band.

Millersport Police Chief Mark Consolo reported the statistics for the month of August with three traffic warnings, three dispatch runs and one mutual aid run.

Walnut Township Fire Chief Robert Price reported run totals for the month of August with Station 631 making 42 runs, Station 632 making 24 runs and Station 633 making 31 runs. They also had 26 mutual aid runs.

D&M Painting began the water tower painting project on Sept. 15. Information from the EPA was received that a loan for the Iron Filter will be 1.99% for as long as 20 years and can be paid off early at no penalty.

An ordinance was given a second reading to increase additional appropriations for the Police Fund and the Water Operating Fund. A Resolution was given a second reading granting wage increases for 2023. A Resolution was approved accepting the Fairfield County Amounts and Rates.

After much discussion with residents, the proposed site of the Dog Park at Tower Alley has been cancelled. Councilman Thompson is exploring alternative sites.

Tom Nebbergall is exploring the possibility of a crosswalk for the Millersport Coffee location and another at Miller Park with curb cuts for handicapped access.

The Village Administrator reported that ARPA Fund money (COVID) has been received in excess of $112,000. Tim Morris received a CDBG Grant in the amount of $68,000 to be used for the radio read meters.

Discussion concerning Cherry Alley and motorists travelling the wrong way. The consensus was to paint large arrows on Cherry Alley showing the one way is east to west.

Blood drive

Senior citizens

The Fairfield Beach Senior Citizens met Sept. 14 at the Millersport American Legion Hall on Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport. A potluck lunch with the club providing fried chicken was enjoyed by 15 members. Drenille and Ken Keener were on the committee for the meeting.

President Carol Kitzmiller conducted the business meeting. Rosie Brookover, Dave Holtz, Jeff Dupler, and Pam Ricketts were recognized with September birthdays. Richard Neff and Ken Keener will audit the books. The nominating committee will have a slate of officers for the coming year. Walnut Township Trustee Bill Yates spoke on the future of the proposed tornado shelter at Fairfield Beach.

President Kitzmiller read humorous “Excerpts from Collision Reports”. Door prizes were won by Bill Yates, Richard Neff, Marty Holtz, Ken Keener, Karen Mosher, Mary Dupler, and Rosie Brookover.

The Oct. 12 meeting will be a breakfast meeting at IHOP in Lancaster with members attending the Fairfield County Fair following the meeting.
