Millie Bobby Brown reveals why her parents still chaperone her

The 19-year-old Stranger Things star has worked in acting since she was nine and says her parents are her 'best friends'.

Millie Bobby Brown has revealed she still asks her parents to chaperone her to work even though she is 19.

The Stranger Things star began working as a professional actor at the age of nine and has said she is so close to her mother and father she still asks them to come to work with her since becoming an adult.

Brown told Lorraine: "My parents are the best thing ever. I'm best friends with them.

"When I turned 18 I said, 'You’re still going to come with me, right?' I always needed a chaperone and I said, 'I still need you.'

"So they travel everywhere with me and they are a huge part of my life as a reason that I am where I am today."

The Enola Holmes star is engaged to Jake Bongiovi, 21, the son of rock singer Jon Bon Jovi.

She said of her upcoming wedding: "It’s really, really exciting."

Brown said Bongiovi shared her desire to maintain a separate private life alongside her fame.

She said: "That's really important as something my parents value, and my family value and my fiance values."

She added of her fiance: "There’s a lot of insight [into fame] there, exactly."

The actor - who has published a novel based on stories her grandmother told her about the Second World War - also revealed her parents encouraged her to go back to school and study, despite finding global fame as Eleven in Stranger Things aged 12.

She said: "I'm a UNICEF ambassador and so I take that role really seriously. And so I wanted to go back to school just to be able to learn more about economic and cultural issues, just so I could, you know, have that information in a broader perspective so that I could really bring something to the role.

"I think that's something, also, my parents put in me because I think they were like, if you are passionate about this, you need to know about it. And that's with everything I do."

The Godzilla star was born in Spain to British parents and after living for several years in Bournemouth moved to America with her family when she was eight.

She lost her grandmother Ruth to Alzheimer's disease on 2020.

Brown said of compiling her debut novel Nineteen Steps based on her grandmother's experiences, "It was really healing."
