Million-dollar OKC homes burglarized, possibly connected to Chilean crime ring

OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – Police requested warrants last week after burglaries in Oklahoma City that are possibly connected to a Chilean crime ring spanning several states.

The burglaries happened at several million-dollar homes while victims were not home at the time, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.

“This was a very sophisticated burglary; they got in without being detected at all,” said OKCPD spokesperson Gary Knight.

According to an affidavit, the original report came from a home near Hefner and Air Depot Road within OKC city limits on November 17.

It stated that the family left at night, and when they returned, they found their backdoor busted in and their safe missing.

Officials said that security video showed two unknown men enter the house, retrieve the safe, load the safe into a vehicle, and then drive off.

Another OKC home that is listed on Trulia for around $3 million was burglarized too. Officials said that a home near May Avenue and Esperanza had a break-in and their safe was stolen.

Officials believe it to be some of the same suspects as the Hefner break-in.

“They made off with the safe, but one of the suspects ended up in Ohio committing yet another burglary up there,” said Knight.

That suspect was John Rodriguez. Documents show that he was arrested in Indian Hill, Ohio, after a home burglary there.

Rodriguez sits in the Hamilton County, Ohio, jail on warrants out of Texas and Oklahoma.

The affidavit stated that his cellphone would lead officials to several other suspects.

One picture, in particular, had what police believed was safe that was stolen from the OKC home on November 17. A man they believed was a suspect was photographed standing next to it.

“That led us to a second suspect for which we now have a warrant issued,” said Knight.

The second suspect was said to be Alejandro Vicente Gallardo, who officials believe is a Chilean resident overstaying their Visa.

Knight said they have issued two warrants regarding the burglaries. One is for Gallardo and the other is for Rodriguez.

No image was available for Gallardo in regards to the OKC home burglaries but one popped up connected to a burglary in Pennsylvania.

The affidavit stated that officials believe they are all connected to a Chilean crime ring that has happened nationwide.

In total, officials said that there have been over $5 million in losses with over 20 burglaries. Those burglaries spanned several states, including Oklahoma, California, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Minnesota, and Texas.

“We believe that they all may be part of a burglary ring that is based outside of this country,” said Knight. “Right now, the investigators are trying to identify the other guys involved.”
