Millsboro man dies day after being hit by car on Long Neck Road. What we know

A 77-year-old man died Thursday after being hit by a car the day before, Delaware State Police said.

Troopers were called to Long Neck Road, east of School Lane Road, in Millsboro a little before 9:30 p.m. for reports of the crash.

There, troopers determined Bruce Peterson of Millsboro had entered the road. The driver of a Chrysler 300 that was headed east braked “rapidly” to avoid hitting him, police said, but was hit from behind by a Ford Escort.

The impact from the Ford pushed the front of the Chrysler into Peterson, who was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition. He died a day later.

The east side of Long Neck Road was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated.
