Milroy, Minnesota, school goes under lockdown Thursday during brief standoff

Oct. 27—MILROY — Students and staff at Milroy Public School went under a brief lockdown Thursday as law enforcement was searching for and eventually arrested a male suspect.

According to a news release from the Redwood County Sheriff's Office, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office had requested assistance with an investigation into criminal threats of violence around 11:21 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Lorrain Street.

The suspect was in a residence and had refused to come out, according to the release, and law enforcement then began setting up a perimeter around the home.

, a brief lockdown was ordered during the incident.

The suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident, according to the release.

The man was then turned over to the custody of the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office. He was still being held for a court appearance as of 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Yellow Medicine County Jail, according to the online jail roster.

The Minnesota State Patrol also assisted and responded to the scene.
