When Jevon Carter first arrived in Milwaukee in late February, he said his phone wasn’t exactly ringing off the hook after he was let go by Brooklyn.

But the Bucks felt he would be a strong fit defensively and he proved to be that — while also shooting 55.8% from behind the three-point line and 50.6% from the field overall in 20 games.

With veteran George Hill injured for the start of the playoffs, Carter averaged just under 16 minutes per game in the first round series against Chicago and was 2-for-5 from behind the three-point line. Hill returned for the second round series against Boston and Carter's minutes waned, but his overall play was solid enough for the Bucks to commit to a two-year deal in principle on Thursday.

Per Hoops Hype, a USA TODAY property, Carter's deal is for $4.6 million. The second year is a player option.

Any free agent signing cannot become official until July 6, as the NBA entered its “moratorium” period at 5 p.m. Thursday. Teams can agree to trades and contracts, but no deals outside of a select few can be signed. It is possible for players or teams to change their minds on an agreement in this period.

Carter, who turns 27 in September, was a second-round pick of the Memphis Grizzlies in 2018. He then spent two seasons in Phoenix before splitting last year between Brooklyn and Milwaukee.
