A Milwaukee man was sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting children who were throwing snowballs at his vehicle.
William Carson, 27, was sentenced by Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Michael Hanrahan on Friday. In November, a jury found Carson guilty on two counts of first-degree reckless injury and five counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
According to the criminal complaint:
A group of minors were firing snowballs passing cars in 2020 along the 6100 block of West Birch Avenue, when Carson's vehicle was hit. Carson then exited his vehicle and fired nine shots at seven minors.
A boy, 13, and a girl, 12, were injured in the incident and a bullet grazed a third minor. Carson then returned to his vehicle and drove away.
Eight days later, Carson was arrested by Oak Creek police after a car chase.
Carson received the maximum sentence for each sentence, according to online court records. Because all the sentences for the seven counts are concurrent, Carson received 16 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision.
