Milwaukee police officers were shot at, returned fire during a stolen vehicle pursuit Monday evening

The father of a Milwaukee Riverwest Elementary School student has been charged with battery for an incident that occurred inside the school in March.

Officers were shot at and returned fire during a stolen vehicle pursuit late Monday afternoon, according to the Milwaukee Police Department. No one was struck, according to police.

Shortly before 5 p.m., police officers initiated a pursuit of a stolen vehicle around 5000 W. Chambers St.

In the 4300 block of North 75th Street, a person in the stolen vehicle fired at pursuing officers, and two officers returned fire, according to the department.

"At this time, it appears that no one was struck and there was no property damage," police said.

In the 3400 block of West Capitol Drive, a 21-year-old man ended up losing control of the stolen vehicle and struck a pole, according to police. The man was taken into custody and to a hospital to be medically cleared.

A firearm was recovered, police said. Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

The officers were placed on administrative duty pending the ongoing investigation.
