With the movie "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret" in theaters, Marcus Theatres has teamed up with the Milwaukee Public Library and the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County to host a menstrual product drive.
Based on the classic book by Judy Blume, "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret" is considered a coming-of-age novel for many young girls, known for its relatable and honest portrayal of puberty, including Margaret's angst as she waits for her first period.
According to the United Way, "23% of American students struggle to afford menstrual hygiene products." The phenomenon is known as period poverty.
Through May 18, people can go to several locations to drop off new, unopened menstrual pads, tampons or panty liners.
