The service allows people to file reports of lost property, theft of items valued less than $2,500 and vandalism or damage to property also valued at less than $2,500 through MilwaukeePDWI.PoliceToCitizen.com.

Milwaukee police on Tuesday announced the public now has the option to file online reports for certain non-emergencies, without having to interact with police face-to-face.

The service allows people to file reports of lost property, theft of items valued less than $2,500 and vandalism or damage to property also valued at less than $2,500 through MilwaukeePDWI.PoliceToCitizen.com.

All that’s required is a valid email address must be provided, the incident had to occur in Milwaukee and it must be reported by someone 18 or older.

“This does not take away from in-person reporting or a call,” Chief Jeffrey Norman said at a press event Tuesday. “This is only an option. This is voluntary.”

Milwaukee police received more than 12,000 such reports in 2021 and have received more than 8,200 so far this year. Norman said he hopes the public will take advantage of the convenience of the service and free up time for officers to focus on more serious calls.

Norman said the online service may expand to receive reports of other types of incidents in the future.
