Milwaukee's snow emergency concludes, city has issued over 5,300 citations

Milwaukee's snow emergency has now concluded, however the Department of Public Works will continue its snow and ice cleanup operations Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

As of Tuesday morning, DPW has issued over 5,300 citations. On the first night of snow, DPW reported 2,073 citations and the department said it issued 3,267 citations from Monday night to Tuesday morning.

With the snow emergency lifted, residents are now allowed to park on main streets from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Previously that was prohibited to help with snow cleanup.

Now, DPW is asking residents to observe the posted street signs, which take precedence.

If a block is designated for two-sided overnight parking, drivers may resume parking on both sides of the street on Tuesday.

Reminder, winter parking rules are still in effect, which means no parking allowed on main streets from 2 to 6 a.m. and no parking where street signs state "No parking Dec. 1 to March 1."

According to DPW, a driver's first violation is $50, second violation is $100, and three or more violations results in a $150 fine and the vehicle is eligible for a tow.

Anyone parking overnight on a city street must have a permit. For information on permits, visit milwaukee.gov/parking.
